The epicenter of the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake is a place of unutterable beauty, with dense forest, deep ravines and year-round brooks. The energy that tore out of that small section of woods at 5:04 PM, on October 17th, telegraphed by the earth herself, affected tens of thousands of lives...unprotected by the intervening miles.
